Never Give In To Fear by Marti MacGibbon

Never Give in to Fear: Laughing All the Way Up From Rock BottomNever Give in to Fear: Laughing All the Way Up From Rock Bottom by Marti MacGibbon
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Summarize the book without giving away the ending. Join Marti while she takes a ride on the high train. The book will take readers across the country and around the world. Learn about how one woman survived from being a forced prostitute and rose above her addiction to drugs. With her raw humor readers will laugh, cry and walk away with a new understand about addiction.

Tell in your own words how the setting of the story made it more interesting. I have personally thought and talked this over with other book club members and we have wondered if the author’s life would have been different if she went to LA instead of San Francisco. Would she have still become addicted to drugs? Would she still been in forced prostitution? This is something we may never know, and if the author questions this, I have to ask why? Yes, you made the decision, but your decision was what you thought was the best at the time. Remember never to have regrets about your past; it has made you into a stronger human being today.

Who was your favorite character? What did you appreciate about him/her? Marti is strong from the beginning to the end. I am personally thankful that she is here to tell her story. Hopefully she will be able to help one person stir clear of drugs or escape from either a self-inflected or forced prostitution. If her words/story reaches one person and moves, them enough to change then I feel that this story is worth more than gold.

Has reading this memoir changed your opinion about the author? Changed how I think about MacGibbon? No, but I now questions several aspects in her life. I personally would enjoyed a more details on how/why the author started using drugs.

Disclosure: I received a review copy of this book from the author.
